Lithium batteries are half the weight of a traditional lead-acid battery, which shaves off two-thirds of the battery weight in the golf cart.  Allowing the cart to reach a faster speed in less time.

Charging a golf cart takes time and a lithium battery can be fully charged in just 5 hours, while a lead-acid battery can take up to 10 hours or more.  Also, a lithium battery can maintain consistent power and speed  while a lead-acid battery will slow down as the voltage dips.

Lithium batteries require no maintenance at all, while lead-acid batteries need to be checked and maintained fairly regularly.  Also, who likes the lead-acid chemical spills on their garage floor?
